Dr. Erwin Hesse

Dr. Erwin Hesse has over a decade of admissions experience at some of the most prestigious universities in the US. He has conducted research in admissions, published a peer-reviewed article, and presented at local and national conferences.

Born to immigrant parents, Dr. Hesse overcame tremendous obstacles during his K-12 years at Montgomery County Public Schools. After heading down the wrong path, he enrolled at his local community college and obtained two associate degrees at Montgomery College. Upon transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice on a full-tuition scholarship.

Motivated to help students facing challenging life circumstances, Dr. Hesse worked at Identity, a nonprofit in Montgomery County that supports Latinx youth and families. Dr. Hesse was recruited to the University of Maryland's Office of Undergraduate Admissions in 2011. During his four years at Maryland, he honed his skills as an Admission Counselor while earning his Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Baltimore.

In 2015, Dr. Hesse was offered the position of Associate Director of Admission at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Three years later, Dr. Hesse earned his Doctor of Education degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Education and was offered the position of Executive Director of Enrollment Management at Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies. After leading the admissions office at Georgetown for almost four years, Dr. Hesse became the Senior Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Manager at Amazon in 2021. He worked closely with universities across the United States to recruit and hire exceptional talent for software development and other tech/non-tech full-time employment as well as internships.

In addition to working in admissions for over a decade, Dr. Hesse served as a subject-matter expert in developing the course, "Enrollment Management: The Student Lifecycle," at Georgetown University. He was a faculty member in the Master of Higher Education Administration program at Georgetown from 2021 through 2022. As of July 2025, Dr. Hesse became the inaugural Director of the Center for Innovation and College Admission at the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).

Andrea Hesse, MPA

Andrea Hesse is a practitioner in the field of editing, marketing, communications, and project management. She is an advocate for equitable educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Born to immigrant parents and raised in a low-income household, Mrs. Hesse leaned on education as her saving grace from a challenging upbringing. After some years in the public school system and desperate for a better educational path, Mrs. Hesse's parents sought Saint Michael's School. This decision came with unprecedented sacrifices. Evenings, weekends, and summers meant working alongside her parents to afford school tuition.

Academically, Mrs. Hesse's hard work paid off. She was named valedictorian of her class and awarded an academic scholarship to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Hesse attended Montgomery College on a full academic scholarship to complete her transferable college credits. As an undergrad, she balanced internships in the City of Rockville's Public Relations Department and the Universities at Shady Grove's Marketing and Communications Department.

Two years after graduating from high school and on a full academic scholarship, Mrs. Hesse earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park, and accepted a full-time job offer to create and edit public relations campaigns for nine public universities in Maryland. At the age of 22, while working full-time and volunteering in her community, Mrs. Hesse graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Master of Public Administration degree. She earned a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Management from Harvard's Division of Continuing Education.

As a former editor and project manager, Mrs. Hesse led various teams and improved internal and external communication channels for market research firms that proudly served clients in more than 150 countries and produced more than 50,000 evaluations each month.

Mrs. Hesse is the Cofounder and Lead Editor at Admissions Gambit. Her honesty, professional experience, and dedication will help you in checkmating your application essays and interviews.
